What do I plant by my fresh water pond?

I live in Houston Tx area and just pulled up a banana tree that didnt do anything. I like to plant a low maintenance fruit tree at its place. Its very close to the water and I dont want to drown it. If not advisable, a pretty flower tree that dont mind some wet feet. What do you suggest?

What do I plant by my fresh water pond?
Tulip tree, they like the water better than a banana tree and just remember you do not have to plant them real close to the water as they grow tall, you might try planting another banana tree a little further back from the water as the grow pretty big too. A flowering crab like lots of water or any apple tree for that matter. The list goes on and on
Reply:Depending on if water was in hole when you pulled up banana tree, any other tree would go there, the close water would be a water supply to help it in drought. You could make hole little bigger than needed and put in some rocks on side nearest water and they will slow down the roots to the water and allow tree (s) to last longer. 9 times out of 10, trees will like having the water close, since it helps keeping the tree from stressing in droughts
Reply:why don't you plant a curly willow there? the branches are just beautiful and all the willows love water
