Hi,
i need to do a sureal painting but i have got to put on fresh flowers but i want to preserve them as i want them to keep fresh and not die. I am not sure if to try coating them in PVA or something . So if anyone has any ideas of what i can coat them in it will help me loads even just ideas for me to experiment with.
Thank You
How to preserve flowers on a painting?
No way can you keep them fresh. Dry them to look fresh using something like silica gel which will dry them in their original shape.
Reply:I'd be curious to know how you're attaching
the flowers to the canvas. Or more specifically
how are they being displayed with
or incorporated into your painting?
Below are some links to flower preservation.
If the slow decomposition of real flowers, isn't needed
for the concept of your painting, maybe you
could try using cloth flowers? Real flowers,
even though they make a strong statement
esthetically, will be problematic to deal with
at a practical level. Even if you coat them
with verathane they will dry out and be fragile.
Cloth flowers have these advantages.
1. they're cloth. You won't have to tend to them.
2. they'll last as long as your painting
3. they look almost real and way better than plastic
4 I can't think of a fourth reason...sorry.
Below is one link to someone who sells a book
on preserving bridal bouquets and frames them.
Their example look pretty good.
