Does adding sugar to the water help keep cut flowers fresh?

I have heard of sugar, aspirin and pennies The Pennies work real good.

Does adding sugar to the water help keep cut flowers fresh?
I haven't hear that. But I have read that adding asprin works.
Reply:never heard of that, but a teaspoon of clorox (bleach) will keep it fresh for days :)
Reply:I've tried it I didn't see much of a difference ever hear of trying 7up
Reply:Asprin will do that trick
Reply:yea i tried it ...but sooner or later it will :(
Reply:I haven't heard of straight granulated sugar, but I've heard of aspirin (which didn't work for me), Sprite (which didn't work for me either). What works for me is placing the stems under ice cold water %26amp; cutting them slant-wise then placing them in a clean vase full of ice cold water (you could let a few ice cubes melt in cold water, too then add the flowers). They need water in the stems to keep them fresh. Also cutting them once or twice a week (depending on the type of flower) will keep them from wilting. Carnations last the longest, Roses are second, then Gerber Daisey's usually just need to be put into fresh water and they will spring right back up! Good luck!
Reply:i have always added an aspirin it seems to work just fine. i just make sure they are not coated ones.
