How to keep flowers alive?

I got my girl some little pink roses in a small pot. I just want to keep them looking fresh until Valentines day. Ive got them by my window collecting what little light there is in Buffalo but its pretty cold by the window. Do they like it cold or warm? Its probably about 63 Fahrenheit in my room, should I turn the heat on? How much water do they like?

Roses need to be in room temp. water, not cold or warm, several inches above the bottom of the stem. Keep them in a cool room or they will open more quickly then you probably want. Do not let them get too cold though, or they will freeze and die. 63 degrees should be good. Take them out of the water after a day or two and re-cut the stems an inch or two up and quickly put them back into water again so they can get a fresh drink. (After a few days the stems become clogged and cannot absorb water any longer.)

If you decide you want the roses to open up more, put the recut roses in warm water (not hot) and make the room a little warmer.

Your daughter will love them!
Reply:If they have the plastic paper around the pot that needs to go. Put the pot on a saucer and water about every 5 days. Roses don't like their roots to be soggy so drainage is good.
