Why Are Some Plants Classed As Annuals And Others As Perennials...?

Why do some flowers grow back year after year, whilst others have to be grown fresh from seed each year?

Why Are Some Plants Classed As Annuals And Others As Perennials...?
Because annuals, have an annual growth cycle. They live for one year, shed their seeds then die.

Perennials can survive the Winter weather, and will "come" again the next year, ad infinitum.

It's entirely down to how different plants propogate themselves into future generations.

Annuals have to grow quickly and produce their seeds before the end of their life cycle, whilst perennials can take a much slower growth pattern.

The advantage for the annuals is, their seeds are light and portable, often carried away by the winds, and sometimes by animals and birds. Annuals thus can spread much more quickly.

Perennials, you might say, put down their roots and stay put. They don't need the same amount of food energy as the annuals, but don't propogate as quickly.

Reply:Typically, many annuals are considered annuals merely because the climate in the area where they are planted is too cold to sustain them over the winter. Were they to be planted in a warmer climate, they would no longer die off each fall and would, essentially, be perennials. However, there are certain species of plants that grow simply to produce their fruit/seed and then die. True annuals, no amount of warm weather will coax them to survive longer than their natural lifespan.
Reply:Basic horticultural thing , Some plants will grow and bloom year after year. These are perennials. Other flowers and plants, grow bloom, seed and die in one season. these are annuals ,, In between we have biennials which grow in the first season , flower and die i n the second ,,,
