Flower power Tampons?
Oh Sister, thank you so much!

I'm trying to look at the positives of menopause. You've given me the best one yet!
Reply:I don't know why you would want to use them its just another gimmick.
Reply:sounds awesome groovy wraps lol have a happy period
Reply:seriously, why do you need scented tampons?

this can't be good for your body's natural pH.
Reply:I don't fancy putting anything 'lightly scented' into me, thank you! Remember toxic shock syndrome? I also find it offensive that the marketing bods think we need to disguise the smell of our bodies. It's only blood!
Reply:this is just what I've always wanted....
Reply:No one with any sense would use scented tampons – in fact no one who is educated about their bodies and tampons would use tampons.

Tampons themselves are a health risk because they are absorbent wads of material being put into a moist delicate environment, as a result they absorb vaginal fluids causing splitting, they can expand into the cervix causing menstrual cramping, they can dry out the vagina causing vaginal splitting and irritation. They are pores so give bacteria and yeast naturally in your vagina the perfect moist, warm, nutritious menstrual blood filled place to multiply and cause infections, and put you at higher risk of TSS, added to this problem is fibre loss.

Commercial tampons have all the health risks of tampons with the added risks of synthetic materials, chemicals and bleach. Synthetic materials are super-absorbent increasing risk of infection and TSS. Chemicals and bleaches interfere with vaginal PH, that in turn messes up normal bacterial and yeast balance that helps keep the vagina healthy, as a result these further increases risks. Manufacturers legally don't have to tell anyone what chemicals they use, they could be using any chemicals and these are then being put into a major orifice of the body with mucosa that easily absorbs chemicals – this is why they got away with using chlorine gas bleaching in the 1990's for so long, no one knew this was used or that it resulted in dioxin within the tampons.

Scented tampons – well, see all the above and raise even more chemicals, so even greater health risks – commercial tampons are the most harmful out of over 20 different menstrual options, the only options responsible for deaths, scented tampons are beyond horrific.

The only reason for bleaching is to make tampons whiter, its marketing used to make women feel worse about their periods, to play and take advantage of the menstrual taboos already around in society – scented tampons is just another way to play to those taboos. So now a whole new generation of girls are being taught they are disgusting and smell bad, as a result should risk their health to do something about it.

You'll also notice that we in the UK went for a very long time without scented tampons, US were the only ones where they were really successful, only recently such products as Femfresh, Always Freshelle and other similarly unhealthy products have started really pushing advertising telling women YOUR VAGINA SMELLS – yeah, no kidding, it smells like a vagina, we don't need chemicals to make us smell like freaking flowers! Then scented tampons and pads burst into the shops, now half the shelves in the supermarkets are made up of scented menstrual products – you will also notice then that it just so happens this came about after menstrual activism took off, and the Keeper (reusable menstrual cup) started advertising on television...odd that.

Yes, this WAS an excuse to rant, and yes this WAS an excuse to spread a little knowledge *grins*
