Cut flowers can be kept fresh for a longer time by recutting the stems at an angle under gently flowing water from the tap before putting them in fresh, lukewarm water. Also, adding a crushed aspirin to the water has been known to help, or a few drops of bleach. It also helps to change the water in the vase every day or every other day.

Reply:it will vary from plant type.in rose ,if buds are half open cut the stem in slight slant position and kept on moist sponge(don't remember exact material may be oasis, available on fresh flower shop), keep it wet at low temperature 20 oC(it lowers dehydation from flower surface), remove lower dry petal whenever observed, whenever observe turbidity/bad smell in water add fresh water to improve life of cut flower.it is difficult to control freshness in nature.but use of good quality plant type and good organic mannure in soil improve quality and quantity of flower.

Use either an asprin (real not tylenol, bayer works great, or you can also use one of those packets available at many grocery stores in their floral department) I usually pick those us and have them on hand. Most of the time they just give them away if you are purchasing.

Reply:my biology teacher in school was a keen gardener and he told us that the trick to keep cut flowers fresh is to cut the stems at a 45 degree angle to open up the xylem and phloem ( the tubes that allow water and food to travel through the plant) and immerse in water with a drop of bleach for a few minutes and transfer to a vase with fresh water , with a spoonful of sugar in the water ..to give the flowers food...change the water every 2nd day and they should last for ages...
