Does putting an aspirin in a vase with flowers or roses really work???

I was wondering if it was a MYTH or if it really works to keep the flowers fresher longer..

No, no, nor does adding copper coins. If you need to add something, start with commercial floral preservatives. Florists use them. When you buy bouquets from most "cart" displays, there is floral preservative included or you can buy a container. It last for years.

Second, a few drops of bleach will work too, but just a few drops for a quart worth of water. Obviously for a bud vase you'd use one drop or two.

Actually the best advice is to change the water every other or third day and snip off the ends of the stems. I'll also rub and rinse the flowers' stems where the "muck" starts to form.

Remember flowers vary in their vase life. Keep the flowers out of bright light and in a cool area.
Reply:The best bet is to use a commercial floral preservative (should come with most bouquets). Use a knife to cut the stems (scissors will crush the stem and they can't get water through a crushed stem) and put in room temperature water with the preservative in it. Change the water daily and cut the stems if they get slimy. Also, if one flower starts to go bad, it will cause the other flowers to go bad because of the gas they emit when they rot, so remove any bad flowers ASAP.
Reply:I have heard that it does, but I prefer tonic water. Its the carbon bubbles that make the plants/flowers last longer because they take carbon dioxide from the air and convert it to oxygen.
Reply:they say it does i have never tryes it myself.i always go and cut the bottoms of the stems after a few days and that's what makes my flowers last longer.
Reply:Yes it helps keep all cut flowers longer. My Grandmother, rest her soul, told me.
Reply:yes it does it makes them live alot longer
