Flowers for the weddings???

I was thinking about making my flowers for the wedding. My flowers are hot pink roses. When would I acutally make the bouquets and centerpieces because I would be using fresh flowers. What tips could you give me so that the flowers will look good on the day of the wedding? What should I do the night before the wedding? Or would it just be eaiser to get someone to do them? What is the price difference?

Flowers for the weddings???
save $=DIY

less work=be thrifty
Reply:pay someone, you have enuf to do

you should be gorgeous, not frazzled

and you will be with too many things to do

before your big day
Reply:With specialty flowers bouquets can be very pricey. My advice is to get a book on flower arrangements and do it yourself. To preserve flowers: keep in the refrigerator, and lightly mist once a day.
Reply:If you are the bride, and you want to make the floral arrangements yourself, I would suggest silk flowers.

If your priority is fresh flowers, I suggest having someone else do the arranging. You will want to get a full night of sleep before your wedding day, to be ready for all the activity.
Reply:if you arrange yourself it is better
Reply:It would be easier to have someone do it for you, becuase there are alot of flowers involved with weddings!

Like the Bouquet, Bridesmaids’ Bouquets, Corsages (Mothers, Grandmothers, etc.) Boutonnieres (Groom, Groomsmen, Fathers, Grandfathers, etc.) Centerpieces, and way more other things

You should have it done for you.

but remeber that a 30-35% labor fee is attached to all wedding floral packages.

Reply:Doing anything yourself is always cheaper. The price of a centerpiece depends on your flowers, fillers, and type of vase you use. Generally florist takes whatever the price of all the material and doubles it. So doing it yourself you can save a hefty amount. I wouldnt do it more then a day ahead of time and you must refrigerate them. This will prevent them from wilting, opening too fast, or turning colors. It would be easier to have someone else do it but you have to weigh the options. Do you have time the night before your wedding to do this? Can people help you? Who will go buy all the flowers? Where will you get them? My advice would be talk to a florist in your area. Get a quote. Then go price the flowers yourself from wholesalers. See what the difference is and decide what is best for you. Good luck and Congratulations!
Reply:I made my own flowers for my wedding, and they turned out better than I could have imagined. I purchased the flowers from http://www.theflowerexchange.com/Scripts... I had them delivered two days before my wedding. We put them in buckets of water to allow them to open (the flowers come mostly closed buds). Then the day before we made the centerpieces and bouts. The morning of the wedding we made my bouquet (I'd recommend this for other bridesmaid bouquets too, but I didn't have bridesmaids). Then we left the bouquets in water until the wedding. The centerpieces actually lasted for about 2.5 weeks. They turned out better than any flower shop would have done. This link gave me lots of useful information on making your own flower arrangements:

Plus it really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and the price was right. In fact, I'm planning to order flowers for the holidays using the same wholesaler. Good luck!
Reply:It is always cheaper to do everything yourself.

Keep the flowers simple and pick the hardiest ones. You can find information on care of flowers and arranging on internet.

Start your search and by your flowers in bulk from suppliers if it is a large wedding. It is cheaper.
Reply:Get someone to do it for you. No matter how you plan, you do not want to do anything yourself as you will be crazy the day of your wedding. Hire or have friends do things for you. Reliable friends.

As to the prices, call around for quotes. Check the Internet for prices too. Plan everything out, and then just relax the day of your even, if you can. LOL There will be problems in a wedding, always are. Trick is to not let them bug you and ruin your day. Roll with the punches. By a good wedding booklet on how to plan weddings. I think Dear Abby has something like that. Do a search on the net, good luck to you both on your special wedding day. God bless.
Reply:You are not going to have the time to do real fowers, I would either pay a florist or diy with silk flowers. If you are determined to diy with real flowers you will need a frig to hold them to keep them from wilting %26amp; stay away from white flowers. Also you will only have a couple days before the wedding to make all the arrangements if you want the flowers to last. Usually if you have a farmers market or wholesale nursery area near by you can get flowers cheaper.

I am paying a florist to do the wedding party flowers then I am diy the pews/alter with silk flowers and using candles for the centerpieces. Also my church doesn't have fall decorations so they are giving me a discount on the church to give them the decoration after the wedding.

It will be worth the extra money to pay a florist if you want real flowers. With the small time frame you have to do the arrangements there will be no time to redo them %26amp; you will have wasted more money if they don't come out the way you want.
Reply:It's always easier to get someone else to do something instead of doing it yourself. But the price difference is pretty big. Florists in my area could cost me a couple of thousand and doing the flowers myself will cost me about $300, since I will buy the flowers wholesale.

I'm having a Sunday wedding, so I'm buying flowers Saturday morning. I'm making the bouquets that morning and putting everything in water and will keep them in the basement since it's the right temperature. Sunday my helpers will take the flowers to the location and set everything up. It's not a lot. 6 centerpieces and putting greenery in various places.

For Saturday weddings, I've seen people buy the flowers Saturday morning (the wholesale market is open to the public from 6am to 9am here in LA) and do everything then. It's really not such a big deal and I would highly recommend practicing your bouquets and centerpieces so when the time comes it will be second nature. Also, some community colleges and florists have wedding floral design classes that last about a few hours. You can look into that as well. Since you're only using one type of flower, it would be very easy for you to handle on your own. And since you're only dealing with a couple of days buying something in mid-bloom is ideal.

The latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings has a checklist for flower decor in the back of the magazine. This will make the whole process much easier and organized.
Reply:maybe tie them in nice white ribbon
Reply:i've heard that if you put an asprin tablet in the water with the flowers they last longer.....the rest of the stuff, i'm not quite sure, but i hope the asprin thing helped! lol
Reply:For the sake of your sanity and stress level it would be easier to have the florist do them.

However, if you are confident enough in yourself to be able to design your centerpieces and boquet then go for it.

The best thing to do is get the flowers the night before and make all the boquets and centerpieces the night before the wedding. Make sure to leave them in water in the fridge. Keeping them cold keeps them fresh for the wedding day.
Reply:I think there are a lot of things that you can do to save money but doing the last minute decorations or decorating should be what you spend your money on, so pay someone to do it. sometimes you can save money by purchasing your own vases and supplying them to your florist. as the time draws nearer and nearer to the big day you will find that your attention will be needed on more important things...
Reply:If you are to do it yourself buy all your flowers on the thursday prior to your wedding. Cut all the ends with a nice sharp knife at an angle about 1 1/2" up from the bottom of the stem. Submerge the stems in a plastic bucket (dont use metal) filled with water and flower preserve overnight.

You can start arranging your flowers on Friday morning if you have time. Depending on how many you are doing I would say you can do it your self but if you have alot to do enlist a crafty friend to help. Each bouquet might take around 20minutes.

Use floral tape to bind all the bouquets together after you are happy with the shape. put each in a vase or something else to keep them upright so they can drink water...Dont be tempted to put them in the fridge as its much colder in your fridge then a florist fridge and you can ruin the flowers.
Reply:It would be easier to get someone to do them. You aren't going to have time to set all that up on the wedding day.
Reply:hot pink is ok for a present but awedding is odd but its your wedding

congrats:)
Reply:i had faked flowers for my wedding and i made them myself. it worked just fine, and i was able to work on it whenever i wasnt busy with other wedding stuff. and i think my bouquets and centerpieces looked so pretty. it was cheaper and in my opinion there are more important things to spend money on than the flowers. but if you want fresh flowers, i would get someone to do them, cause the last thing you want, is being stressed out cause you might not have enough time. maybe your bridesmaids could help. but the night before you definitely should be out on your party.

wish you all to best
Reply:I plan on DIY'ing my flowers, i am using orange, yellow and red roses, from what i have read, you can prepare them two days before, they should stay, just follow the rules that are given to maintin the flowers. If you are doing Bout. and Corsages you may have to just do them the night before and refridgerate them. If you goole wholesale flowers, or wholesale roses, you can find the instructions on how to care for flowers when you get them. Also be sure that who ever you are ordering them from takes the thorns off prior to you getting them, some places dont sell them this way, and some do.

I am just handing mine, i bought some fake flowers to practice with, i have plenty of time seeing as my wedding is not until next october. I think it can be done, and if you get your bridesmaids to help it shouldnt be to bad. You are going to save alot of money doing it yourself. Example, my friend got married in september and paid around 1000.00, for just my bouquets, bouts, and corsages i am only paying around 300.00 it maybe more if you are doing your centerpieces as well.

Good Luck to you!
Reply:If you use fresh flowers, you have to get them ready and get them to open up, etc the day before. You will not have time for this...I used fresh flowers as well. Have someone else do it for you. A professional will be pretty expensive, but I just used a family friend that knew how to do it...much cheaper. And, it saved me time.
