How much do wedding cakes typically cost?

I know there is a large range and a lot of veriables and options. I am basically looking for a typical rnage for a standard wedding cake. Probably a relativly simple design. I know smaller is less expensive and you can save on cost if you use fresh flowers. Again I am just looking for what it typical.

How much do wedding cakes typically cost?
My cake has 3 tiers, and sugar flowers, 2 colors on it...Paid $200 for it, fed close to 200 people, if I remember correct. I suggest using a favorite bakery or maybe even Wal-Mrt.....They have beautiful wedding cakes and they taste good too.....GL;)
Reply:Wedding cake costs are typically determined by a number of factors:

1. Kind and size of cake you want (to feed how many people?)

2. The detail of the decorations you want (e.g. it will cost quite a bit for detailed work like sugar paste flowers)

3. The flavors and the labor involved in making them, as well as whether you want all layers the same flavor

4. Buttercream vs. fondant

Most bakers charge by the slice. Where I live (Ohio), I have seen cakes range from $2.25/slice basic to $4.75 per slice (for intricacies, or off the wall flavors, or for wedding cheesecakes).

The wedding sites like Brides, The Knot, etc. have good resources for this type of stuff. Oh, and NEVER order cake for the exact number of guests. The entire wedding cake is rarely eaten at receptions, especially considering that some people might leave the reception before the cake is even served.
Reply:I paid 250 (for 60 guests), but I have seen some for 150 (very generic), and I've been to weddings with $1,200 worth of cake (for 180 guests + kosher).
Reply:It depends on where you are at too.

I'm in California. My cake is a four tier cake. It is going to cost $800 dollars. Mind you.....this is not fondate frosting, or some glorious filling in the middle. Just simple cake with whipped frosting. Anything under $1000 is basic. If you go below $100 dollars a tier, I would take a closer look at the bakery.
Reply:I had a family friend make mine for $75 but that was incredibly cheap. When I was shopping around, the cheapest I could find was $250.
Reply:Our daughter had a standard cake, not large at all... if I remember, it cost about $150... we put the bridesmaids bouquets around the cake, real flowers, not silk and it really looked so pretty.... good luck and congratulations.
Reply:They range from $100.00 and up. It depends on what you want.
Reply:My daughter had 175 guests, a three tier cake with each tier being a different flavor. It had handmade sugar orchids on it. In NC it cost us $425. It was great looking %26amp; yummy! Well worth the money because the guest ate it, my oldest daughter cost me 1/2 the price but people only ate 1/3 of the cake.
Reply:You can easily make one yourself for very cheap.
